Breakwater Freestyle 1 - Lesson 1
Sample Practice Session

At home: Daily, about six minutes. See Dry Kicking for Freestyle & Backstroke.

At the pool: As often as possible, go to the pool and perform the following drills. Perform each drill for about 5 minutes, stopping to rest for several breaths at each wall. Remember that these drills are about balance and posture, not about conditioning, so do not kick too hard. Repeat the circuit two or three times, as time allows.

Newer Swimmers: (more advanced swimmers, see below)

  1. Front Balance Drill
  2. Breathing Practice: Holding wall, or standing and sculling
  3. Back Balance Drill

More Advanced Swimmers: If the front and back balance drills are comfortable, master the following two dynamic balance drills, where you move from one balance position to the other:

  1. Back-Front-Back Balance
  2. 4X90 Balance
