1: Video Analysis for Running and Swimming
Video is absolutely the best tool for analyzing, reviewing, and
teaching sports movement. In this workshop Coach Neil Cook will
demonstrate everything you need to know about providing video analysis
for your athletes - recommended equipment and software, and how
to capture video and present the analysis most effectively.
Neil Cook has completed 33 marathons, 15 ultras, and close to 1,000
other endurance races. He has degrees from Springfield College,
Adelphi University and Columbia University. He is a USA Triathlon
certified coach and a member of the Northeast Region Board of Directors.

David B. Phillips, MD
2: Oxidative Stress and Free Radical Damage
Exercise causes a huge increase in muscle oxygen consumption, damaging
healthy cells through the formation of free radicals. We will examine
how this affects athletic performance and overall health, and the
importance of nutrition in minimizing the damage. Dr. David Phillips
is a frequent speaker on nutrition, exercise, and disease prevention.
3: Triathlon Training Emergencies
If you coach long enough, one of your sessions will include a medical
emergency. As a triathlete and an emergency medicine physician,
Dr. David Phillips has seen emergencies from both sides, so to speak,
and he will provide insight and real-world practical advice on how
coaches can best deal with medical emergencies in all three disciplines.
David Phillips was an All-American swimmer at Harvard University.
In triathlon his accomplishments include: National Long Course Champion,
St. Croix Half Ironman Masters Champion, Kona finisher, USAT All-American,
and Team USA member.
4: Effort Based Training
Effort Based Training is arguably the most effective way for an
endurance athlete to train. But, what exactly is it? How do we apply
and adapt the theories to real life training plans for real people?
Wayne Vartabedian is a Technical Representative for Polar USA.
As a technician, he understands HR monitors from the inside out
- from conception to new product roll-out. He regularly provides
technical support for both coaches and athletes on the use of HR
monitors, training zones and training techniques. And as an athlete,
he understands the practical application of the theories - Wayne
has two Ironman finishes (including Kona), a sub-3-hour marathon,
and is a Powerman Zofinger finisher.
