June 6, 2011 - Underwater Video - Side & Front Views

Click here for instructions on how to use the video player. Use the Turn Comments On or Off buttons for voice-over comments. Note that you can play the clips one frame at a time or in slow motion using the player control buttons. Play the clips with and without comments, and then see the Drill Clips and Stills pages (above) for suggestions on how to deal with the issues mentioned.

See the Recommendations below the video player.

Priority
Recommendation
1
Arms. On entry your palm faces forward, which brings your whole arm back up toward the surface. This is a braking action, and it will take too long to get your catch, because you will have to press your hand and forearm down on the water for a (relatively) long time. See the Arm Stroke Setup page, and note where the swimmers' hands are as they reach full extension (deeper than their elbows, which are deeper than their shoulders).
2

Breathing. You are getting too much of your head out of the water when breathing. Try to roll just your face to the air. Have a look at the first video on the Video Clips - Breathing page (from SwimTherapy). It is long but very well done.
