June 6, 2011 - Underwater Video - Side & Front Views

Click here for instructions on how to use the video player. Use the Turn Comments On or Off buttons for voice-over comments. Note that you can play the clips one frame at a time or in slow motion using the player control buttons. Play the clips with and without comments, and then see the Drill Clips and Stills pages (above) for suggestions on how to deal with the issues mentioned.

See the Recommendations below the video player. I see some extra movement with your hands, but other than that your stroke looks very good.

Priority
Recommendation
1
Arms - hand movement. As you extend your hands, they sometimes scull back up toward the surface. To get your catch, you scull down and away from your body. This is extra movement of your hands (up and then to the side), and that creates extra drag and delays your catch and pull. See the Setup page, and try to spear your hand directly to the setup position. Then see the Catch & Pull page, and note how early in the stroke cycle the swimmer gets her hand and forearm vertical in the water. Practice any of the catch and pull drills on the Video Clips - Arms page.
