Priority
Recommendation
1

Kicking. You are bending your knees too much. This leaves your thighs deep in the water (creating extra drag) and means you are kicking with a short lever (from the knees down instead of the whole leg). Practice your kicking technique out of the pool - lie on your belly, and practice lifting your whole leg using your glutes (instead of just your shins using your hamstrings) - see Dry Kicking for Freestyle and Backstroke. For general information about kicking, see the great kicking article on the Swim Smooth Website: Leg kick in the freestyle stroke.

2
Breathing. You press the leading arm straight down in the water when breathing. Leave it out front, whefe it provides buoyancy and allows you to get a better catch and pull. See the first video on the Video Clips - Breathing page. (It is a long clip, but very good to watch.)
