Sighting Focus

Practice sighting at the pool, so that you can sight with minimal disruption to your body position and timing. You will be much more comfortable in open water if you have mastered sighting at the pool.

Technique Focus Points

  • Plan ahead. Know exactly when you are going to sight.

What to Watch For

  • Breathing forward. You will have to lift your head too high, and you are more likely to swallow water.
  • Looking forward. When not sighting, get your head back down into a neutral position.
  • Stalling. Keep moving. Do not alter your timing.
  • Stopping. See above.
