Long Strokes Focus

In endurance swimming, long strokes are generally a good thing. The trick is to maintain a long and efficient stroke over longer distances, and during the frenzy of a triathlon start.

Technique Focus Points

  • Consistency. If your stroke count goes up, your efficiency is going down (which is not necessarily a bad thing when you want to go faster).

What to Watch For

  • Increased stroke count When you increase your speed, you expect your stroke count to go up. If your stroke count goes up while your speed remains constant or goes down, you need to pay more attention to what is going on and get the count back down.

More Information

  • Video Clips - None in particular. Almost any of the Balance, Posture, or Arm drills can be done with the goal of taking fewer strokes per length.
