Click here for instructions on how to use the video player. Use the Turn Comments On or Off buttons for voice-over comments. Note that you can play the clips one frame at a time or in slow motion using the player control buttons. Play the clips with and without comments, and then see the Drill Clips and Stills pages (above) for suggestions on how to deal with the issues mentioned.

See the Recommendations below the video player.

Priority
Recommendation
1
Arms. On entry your arm reaches full extension very close to the surface. Getting your arm from there to the setup position (parallel to the surface at shoulder depth) creates a braking action. See the Arm Stroke Setup page, and note where the swimmers' hands are as they reach full extension (deeper than their elbows, which are deeper than their shoulders). Note: You have the right idea with the catch and pull - do not change that - it looks very good.
2

Posture - head position. Your head is tilted forward a bit. Compare it with Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen's in the first clip on the All Around Good Swimming page. I believe this makes it more difficult for you to get to the setup position and then the early vertical forearm catch position, because it tilts your shoulder girdle forward.
